Hey Spud Heads!
I recently went to hang out at The Bronx Brewery for a birthday party. As I sipped my 4.5% beers, I slowly became hungry. Nervous that I'd have to go on a manhunt for Kennedy's, I was informed of a company out in the yard of the brewery that sold empanadas, Empanology. My first thought was, "dammm, gentrification has reached empanadas". I was happy to find out that Empanology is owned by Bronx based Puerto Rican, Jason Alicea. Finding out Jason was Puerto Rican (just like me), made me extremely critical of his food. 1 seasonless empanada and it was an automatic certified spud!
The Review...................
Empanology has a menu jam packed with much more than empanadas. From wings and fries, to burgers and sliders, there was much more than empanadas. But why the hell would I order anything other than empanadas from a spot called Empanology (I did cop a slider and wings, not going to lie). Arroz con Pollo, Pizza, Chopped Cheese, Banana Foster, Lobster Mac & Cheese, and many other flavors grace their menu. I bought every one of them, but for simplicity, this review is only based on the Chopped Cheese and the Lobster Mac & Cheese ones.
Just when you thought your bodega guy made the best chopped cheese, here comes Empanology. The Chopped Cheese is packed with flavorful ground beef and melted cheese. They managed to take simple ingredients and truly elevate it. You can enjoy the simplicity of a chopped cheese and not worry about the bubble guts afterwards.
Next up is the Lobster Mac & Cheese. I thought they'd probably pack it with a tiny piece of lobster and some Kraft Mac & Cheese. I'm not going to front, I had low expectations for it, but the first bite sucker punched me. Perfectly cooked pasta and generous chunks of lobster made this empanada a must have if you find yourself out here.

The Rating..............
I literally grew up inside of a cuchifrito. Being Puerto Rican from The Bronx, our food and culture is one thing that connects all of us. Empanology is serving some of the best empanadas in NYC. As much as I was looking to find some flaw, I just couldn't find any.
For the first time ever.....
